A doula is someone who provides continuous practical, factual and emotional support for the whole family throughout the full duration of pregnancy, the birthing journey, and into early parenthood.
Doulas have respect for childbirth as a sacred rite of passage, and the impact that different birthing processes can go on to have on the lives of the birthing person and their family. A doula advocates for and protects the needs and wishes of the birthing person, and provides encouragement and guidance for them to feel empowered and informed in their decision making regarding birthing choices.
A holistic birth doula will offer support that takes into consideration the mental, social and spiritual wellbeing of the birthing person. I offer alternative therapies as part of my doula package which all aim to enable grounding, balance and trust in the body mind and spirit of the birthing person. These include: sound healing, movement, meditation, breathwork, nervous system reset techniques, aromatherapy, and homeopathy.

You will have a guaranteed familiar face who knows all of your birthing needs and preferences, walking by your side and advocating for you continuously throughout your pregnancy, birth and postpartum phases. The care of a birth doula is focused predominantly on the mother, ensuring that their needs are not neglected when considering the safety of the of the baby.
Research shows that if you have a birth doula:
❁ There is an increased chance that you will have a positive birth experience
❁ You are less likely to feel anxious about giving birth
❁ Your labour is likely to be shorter and have less complications
❁ You are less likely to need medical interventions, including induction
❁ There is a large decrease in the risk of needing a cesarean or assisted delivery

I relate intuitively, meaning I will bring an energy to our time together which meets you where you are at, and helps you to feel at ease. This might be slow and steady, or more playful and energetic. Many people have commented that I seem to know exactly what they need before they even realise what this is for themselves.
My approach is rooted in compassion and connection. I am honest and straight talking, and I do my utmost to make sure you feel heard, respected and supported.
My aim is to create a dynamic which feels safe and trusting. My priority is to guide you to feel confident and comfortable with your unique set of needs and preferences.

This question comes up a lot. Sometimes partners feel concerned that if you have a doula, they will feel left out, but in fact, the support I provide aims to enable the birthing partner to feel more connected to, and involved in the whole birthing and postnatal journey.
In our planning sessions I take great care to understand how the birthing person would like their partner(s) to support them during their labour and birth experience, and I then ensure that the partner feels supported and empowered to be able to do so. I spend considerable time getting to know the birthing partner and to understand how and if they would like to be supported by me.
I can be as involved or hands off as you like, we decide on this together so that everyone feels they have just the right amount of involvement from my side.

I go on call for you 10 days before your estimated due date (if you are planning a natural birth).
When you are in labour, from the moment you say you need me to be with you, I aim to be by your side within one hour. I ask you to consider the time it will take for me to travel to your birth space. I will be with you as soon as I can. I encourage you to communicate with me during the earlier phases of your labour so that I can be as prepared as possible when the time comes for me to attend your birth.
If you go into labour early I will do my best to be with you as soon as I can. I encourage open communication about subtle or seemingly tiny shifts in how you are feeling throughout your pregnancy. This way, I can feel as attuned as possible to your experience and needs.

Yes, I support all birthing choices. I do not have an agenda for how your birth unfolds. My aim is to support you to make informed, heartfelt decisions which will give you the best chance of having your ideal birth. I will advocate for your wishes to be met as much as I possibly and safely can.
I am confident and happy to support birthing people at home without medical assistance, hospital briths, elective or unplanned cesarean births, fully within the National Health System, or anywhere in between. I Please note I am not a midwife replacement, and I am not medically trained.

Yes, I love attending home births in areas within east Kent. I can support you to create your dream birthing space, and I can help you explore what you need to feel comfortable and safe to have your baby at home.
I will arrive at your home when you ask me to and I will stay with you until you are ready for me to leave. This is usually a few hours after your baby arrives, as I can ensure that your first few golden hours together are protected and supported.
I have a TENS machine which I bring to all client births, and if you need a birthing pool I have two available for hire (hire is included if I am your doula). If you decide to transfer to hospital at any point, I will come with you and stay for as long as you need.

I am not medically trained and I do not offer any medical assistance. My role in the birthing room is to be a grounding and supportive, encouraging presence, and to advocate for your preferences to be respected, where it is safe to do so.
I do not offer the expertise and experience of a midwife. I have met and worked symbiotically alongside several midwives in East Kent and Medway, both in hospitals and at home births. I have found the dynamic to be harmonious and beneficial for all involved.
While midwives work in shifts, I will stay with you for the whole duration of your birth, regardless of how long it takes.

As my approach is ‘body-centric’, I find it easier to support birthing people who have a movement or embodiment practice, for example, pregnancy yoga. This practice can cultivate an awareness of - and connection to - the body, which can facilitate the ways in which I can support you during your pregnancy, labour and birthing journey.
Ultimately, it usually feels like a positive match if you feel able or willing to trust the wisdom of your body. If you have other embodiment practices I would love to hear from you!
You can absolutely practice pregnancy yoga if you’ve never done yoga before. My classes are beginner friendly and I offer alternative variations of the postures and exercises we move through so there are options suitable to all levels of experience, flexibility and phases of pregnancy.
Pregnancy yoga is different to regular yoga because it offers variations of regular yoga postures which are safe for your body and your baby while you are pregnant. There are some yoga postures and practices which are not safe or comfortable for pregnant people, and the safety guidelines change as you journey through different phases of your pregnancy.
In my pregnancy yoga classes, we move through a creative blend of yoga, movement, breathwork and meditation, as well as some birth preparation exercises, space to connect with your baby, and restorative postures which encourage your body to relax and your mind to be at ease.
Throughout each class, my aim is to support you to feel confident to listen to and trust your body.

Sound therapy can heal our connection with our mind, body and heart.
The frequencies of the sound waves produces by my sound healing instruments can help to guide the body into states of deep rest by causing a shift in brainwaves. During our day to day activities, our brain is usually generating Beta brainwaves. These are associated with mental tasks and analytical thinking, and sometimes associated with stress. Sound healing instruments, such as singing bowls, gongs, chimes, and voice can activate Alpha and Theta brainwaves. Alpha brainwaves bring us into meditative, dreamy states, and we can feel relaxed, alert, receptive and calm. Theta brainwaves are usually generated when we are in a light sleep. This state is linked to increased creativity and intuition, deep rest, deep meditation, and access to the subconscious mind.
I have played sound healing instruments during multiple labours, for pregnant people and for new Mothers with their babies. Several clients have reported that they could feel a shift in their mindset and their body, welcoming feelings of peace, connection and safety.
If you’d like to discuss how we could incorporate sound healing into your birthing journey, get in touch and I would love to put together a bespoke support plan for you.
